We’ve been at the house a few weeks straight and we decided to head to Joe’s Valley Friday night to climb a little ice and boulder on Saturday. The ice around Utah has been pretty terrible, but the reports were that a few things were in at Joe’s Valley. I’ve only climbed once before in Joe’s for ice and it wasn’t some of the classics.
We found a spot at one of the campgrounds, which had no one staying at it for Friday night. Saturday we got a bit of a slow start but headed over and got on CCC Fall’s (WI3+) which is a moderate climb up a stream. The first pitch rambles up some steps. From there it goes another 80 yards up the stream to a final curtain. We ended up TR’ing it a little and then walking down the hiking trail. Not a bad little climb for a 5 minute walk from the car.
There were a few other parties that showed up and one of them at the base mentioned there were a lot of parties at the Donorcicle (WI5). We opted to take a look just for the sake of checking it out. There was only one party when we got there but they were doing TR laps so we headed to New Joe’s to boulder a bit. It was a fun contrast to climbing ice in the morning.
